If your coding agent produced an app that builds successfully, your next question is usually broader than “does it have a known vulnerability?” You also need to know whether routes connect, errors propagate, tests pass and personal data lands in logs.

VibeDoctor groups that repository evidence into a prioritized repair plan. Snyk is a security product family; compare the specific product you intend to use, rather than treating every Snyk feature as one scanner.

What this comparison covers

This is a workflow comparison by VibeDoctor’s makers, not a detection benchmark. We have not measured a common corpus against both tools or established that one catches more vulnerabilities.

QuestionVibeDoctorSnyk
What should I fix next in this repository?Combines applicable engines and built-in checks into a diagnosis and agent planEvaluate the findings and policies of the Snyk products you enable
How do I run a source security check? The full scan can use an installed Semgrep engineSnyk Code supports snyk code test from the CLI
How do results reach an agent?CLI reports and a local MCP serverCheck the integration supported by your chosen Snyk product
Does a clean result prove production safety? No; inspect scan completeness and test the running appNo; static findings still need runtime and business-logic verification

Snyk documents source scanning and optional publishing of CLI results. Confirm its data handling for the product and deployment you select; a CLI interface alone does not establish where analysis occurs.

Where VibeDoctor fits

Run VibeDoctor when you want one view of security, correctness, dead code, tests and privacy signals in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or a mixed repository. Its checks page names the engines involved and the limits of each check.

The core scan analyzes files locally. It can download tools and rules or query vulnerability services. Optional AI privacy review can send configured review material to the provider you explicitly enable. Read the configuration before using either tool on sensitive work.

A missing scanner produces incomplete evidence. Recover it before interpreting an empty findings list as reassurance. Then fix a reproducible blocker and rerun the relevant checks.

When to keep both

If your organization already relies on Snyk policies and security workflows, keep those controls. Use VibeDoctor to give the developer or coding agent a broader repair sequence. Avoid replacing an established security gate because another report has a reassuring score.

For a fair trial, save the same repository revision, enable the intended products, record each tool’s configuration and classify findings by reproducibility. Include seeded mistakes such as a leaked test credential, a failed API route and an unauthorized data read. The useful outcome is the fixes you can verify, not a larger warning count.

Continue with the production readiness checklist for the checks a repository scanner cannot perform.
